Forty years old convinced everyone that she was 22 years old.. until the authorities intervened
A strange story that sparked controversy in the United States recently, the heroine of which is a woman who faked her identity, lived the life of her daughter and convinced everyone that she was two decades younger than her real age.
A
48-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to fraud charges, after spending two years
living as her 22-year-old daughter, using her stolen identity to enroll in
college, obtain student loans and obtain a driver's license.
Everyone
who knew her, a resident of Mountain View, Missouri, believed that Laura
Oglesby was actually twenty-two years old.
According
to the New York Times, she had a job in the city library and had also dated men
who thought she was 22.
After she
reportedly embezzled more than $25,000, Oglesby now faces up to 5 years in
prison without parole for Social Security data fraud.
Mountain
View Police Chief Jimmy Perkins told the New York Times: "Everyone
believed her... she even had friends who thought she was that... 22 years
old."
Under the
plea agreement, Oglesby must also pay Southwest Baptist University $17,000 in
damages.
Oglesby
received $9,400 in federal student loans and $5,920 in other grants.
It is
reported that Oglesby has not spoken to her daughter for years, due to
differences that broke off their relationship, which urged her to exploit her
identity.
